Steps to improving your grades

by Peter K

Wanting to improve your grades is a very good thing. It indicates care about your education and the desire to excel at whatever you're pursuing. Here are some unique perspectives to consider if you're trying to get better grades and haven't been successful.

WHY DO I WANT BETTER GRADES?

First and foremost, you must reflect on why you'd like better grades. Having a reason for doing something and reminding yourself of that reason can be motivating enough to push your grades up. It could be as simple as a stethoscope hanging from your dorm room wall as a reminder of that medical degree you're seeking.

If you are in college, and your reason is because "your parents want you to," it may be time to rethink your life's priorities. While your parents may be right about the importance of education, learning out of fear for parental rejection is not a good place to be and will be a strain in your relationship with your parents.Examine your reasons, and you will often discover there's something else you can hinge on - talents, hobbies, a desire to succeed. If nothing else, understand that whatever you're studying, college is meant to be a time of growth and maturity, which happens faster than any other time in your life.

If you are still in high school or younger, you more of a choice about your education than you think.Proactive students are in a better spot to get into a college of their choice, be prepared with excellent study habits and mental skills, and have options opening up to them that they never dreamed possible. You can even start college early by taking advanced classes.Somewhere along the line, you will make a choice as to what kind of student you are.Just remember that you can always change that choice and become even better.

GAIN PERSPECTIVE

Understand that grades are not as important as you think. You are in school for an education, and grades are meant only as a subjective indicator of how much education you're getting. While it's sometimes true that good grades will open doors for you, in terms of further education and employment, without true knowledge behind that degree, people will quickly discover that your diploma is just another piece of paper.Remember that your primary task in school is to gain, process, and create knowledge.I am a firm believer that doing those things correctly and with passion will bring about excellent grades with much less effort. In other words, the less you worry about your grades, and the more you focus on your education, you will
