The Hocking Hills are certainly the place for you if you are seeking an affordable vacation filled with outdoor adventure, fantastic shopping and to die for dining. Over two million people visit the Hocking Hills region each year, to experience the thrill of nature, the serenity of the hills and heart warming country charm.
Over ten thousand acres of public hiking trails await your discovery in the Hocking Hills. Dogs are welcome at almost all of the state parks in the Hocking Hills. This is terrific news for those of you who travel with a four legged companion.
Among the most popular hiking spots are ; Old Mans Cave, located on state Route 664 South outside of Logan, Ohio. Old Mans Cave is by far the most popular of all hiking destinations in the Hocking Hills. The park is named after a hermit who took up residence in the caves over one hundred years ago. The hike can be a little difficult especially in the winter, for children and the elderly, as many stairs are involved in this hike. The upper trail of Old Mans Cave is equally lovely, and much easier for families with little ones and older folks. A snack bar, rangers station, picnic area, gift shop, and learning center are all available on sight. Old Mans Cave is open daily until dark .On weekends, be prepared for a crowd!
Conkles Hollow is located nearby Old Mans Cave. Conkles Hollow is one of the few parks dogs are not permitted at, as it is not a nature preserve also. Conkles Hollow offers a lower trail that is about a half a mile hike. This trail is ideal for families with small children and elderly people as the trail is not at all strenuous. The upper rim trail of Conkles Hollow is very strenuous and beautiful. The upper rim trail should only be taken by experienced hikers.
The Rock House is located on State Route 374 near South Perry, Ohio. The Rock House offers great picnic spots, as well as a beautiful hike amongst a natural wonder. As you will see the park is named the Rock House as the enclosed cave was once an Indian house. This is is great hike in a gorgeous setting. I recommend this hike, you will be glad you did.
The Hocking Hills also offers great boating, hunting and fishing opportunities as well as camping and canoeing on the Hocking River. You will find many terrific lodging options ranging from enchanting bed and breakfast's to luxurious cabin rentals as well as rustic cabin experiences, not to mention the standard hotel and motel scene.
