Memoirs: What I have learned as an adult

Like all children, when I was small I thought that the adults in my life had it all. They got to go to work, they had money, and they didn't have anyone telling them what to do. Little did I know then that I was completely misled by those ideas. When I was in school, particularly high school, I considered it a waste of my time. After all, I was almost grown already, and I wanted to work just like the grown ups. I have since changed my mind.

~Money is a must. I have discovered that it takes money to live. There are bills that you must pay, and after you reach a certain age, you are expected to pay your own way. Though I have never had a problem with it before, now, I feel that it sucks! I have to pay my own bills, and I must work my butt off in order to do so. The only times that I get off scot-free is when my dad buys me dinner or my uncle buys us ice cream at camp. Other than that, not only must I pay for my admission to events, I am expected to pay for those younger than me.

~Working is not all it is cracked up to be. Don't get me wrong, I love my job and I am fortunate enough to have a great one, but having to work all of the time is not fun. I guess it is more the idea that I know that must work so many hours a day or a week in order to make ends meet. If you have the opportunity arises that you may continue your schooling, and get a good paying job where you may afford things that you need, do so. Never choose work over learning unless that is your only option.

~Credit cards are not your friends. No, really. Unless you are going to be diligent in paying the bill, and keeping your balance low. It is not free money by any means. It is, in fact money that you must pay extra for. Credit cards are a good thing simply by building your credit and of being convenient. Aside from that, they are weights that hold you down. The best way to handle a credit card is to keep it safe for emergencies or must-have items. they are not for buying those cool pair of jeans from 'Ambercrombie' that you feel you need.

~Politics are ridiculous. When I was in the second grade, I was elected the President of my class. I assume it was because everyone liked me. As President, my VP and I would go to the attendance poster in the main hallway once a week and place stars next to the child's names that were present at school all week. I was impeached because I was too quiet (I was shy in school). Those were a few simple things that I knew about politics, and so I thought that I knew it all.
