Will there ever be a chance for world peace?

If you want peace work for justice.

Please understand that peace is not the end of conflict. Peace in a limited way is the end of unlimited force to resolve disputes.

I am drawn back to the church and the hymn "Let there be peace on earth and let it begin with me".

Let's start by affirming the worth and dignity of human beings. This would seem to be working towards the establishment of some minimums related to the basic of human existence.

Politically that would mean a belief in democracy that allows majority rule but also protects the rights of the minority.

Economic justice it seems would require working to provide economic opportunities to allow people to gain a reasonable living. Short of providing these opportunities there may be times when redistribution of wealth may be necessary for some individuals.

Relate to economic opportunities there will be issues related to the distribution of adequate housing opportunities, access to health care and adequate educational opportunities.

The possibilities for peace will increase as the impact of human failings are more limited and institutional exploitation, racism, and poverty are in the process of being limited. A social insurance plan is being developed it just isn't happening fast enough. The devil is always in the details but a commitment to a process that will encourage economic and social justice will encourage the chances for world peace.

An enlightened society should be able to develop policies that will provide for its citizens and the citizens should support policies that are developed through policies that are more democratic and guard against catastrophic situations that happen through no fault of their own.

It would seem that more peaceful societies exist today, these societies in general are more homogeneous and there is a general agreement on goals and there is a methodology for democratic expression.

Issues exist, the world is big and there is a wide divergence on economic power, education, resources, and feudal political systems. Religious beliefs, different culture and languages which make communication difficult but the issue of world peace can be attained as the concept of justice replaces force as the the world's enforcement routine.
