Wedding day disasters will happen, they are the unavoidable part of the day itself. No matter how much planning, how much information one has, something will go wrong. It's just the way it is. One can't control the ring bearer from getting stage fright, or the best man from passing out. A bride has no control over the weather, or how her Mother in Law decides to act.
PLAN BIG STUFF FIRST
Prior planning prevents pretty poor performance. When our teacher told the class that my first week in college, we all laughed and made comments such as, "That's funny." I have used this method my entire life and it has saved me from falling flat on my face on many occasions, even my own wedding day.
One can try to plan for everything on a wedding day, and try to do her level headed best to plan for the occasion to come off flawlessly. When everything falls into place, even though it's 95 degrees on the wedding day in September, one can relax, and enjoy the entire day.
Arrange for the Church, and the place of the reception, a year in advance. Churches, restaurants and reception halls are booked at least a year advance, especially for the popular months of June, July and September. It might be wise to settle on a date for a non-popular month, such as November or March. The weather is very iffy in these months, but one can have their selection of receptions halls, and limousines, and disc jockeys, and one traditionally doesn't have to book a year in advance for less popular months.
PRIORITIZE
Pick out flowers, and invitations, a photographer, and a band as soon as the reception site, is arranged, to ensure that one will have them. Decide on how many people to invite, and make a rough draft list once the major decisions are made. Invitations will be sent out months from now, but one needs to know how many people are invited to tell the restaurant, or reception hall. Picking out a dress can wait until six months out from date of the wedding. Once the bride's dress is decided the bridesmaid's dresses fall in line to compliment her dress. Tuxedos can be picked out after the Bride decides on her dress also.
DON'T BE A BRIDEZILLA
It is a person's biggest day of one's life, but it doesn't have to be a catastrophe
Approach this day, not as a job that needs to be done, enjoy every step of the way. Certainly one's fianc, mother in law, maybe even one's own mother can be difficult from time to time. Remember they are probably more nervous than the bride is. One has to put themselves in their friends
