Poetry: Dark Poems

THE DARK PRINCE

I. He sat alone, so late the hour,
Outside, the leaves, flowers and lake,
Not one tremble, stir or quake,
The stars then began to wane and cower,
Beckoning the moon's new awesome power,
Lost shadows below, did convulse and shake

II. The moon did smile, the stone-cast tomb,
The webs of angels, breathe silver tears,
Murky waters hold baptismal fears,
Within the garden, the fallen bloom,

Their beauty lost to encroaching gloom,
With minds stretched far, they evade the years

III. The sun shone bright, this dreary day,
Reveal young blood, to the dread of light,
Plagued creatures, feeble, devoured at night,
Look now, foul brood, how the corpses lay,
Hear how they moan in a twisted fray,
Take within their newfound lack of sight,

IV. A morose sap from a tree of yew,
Fall from my sky, lord, cursed by the name,
Fade from my ebb, lord, take heart to your tame,
The boy then struck point, vile, stood true,
Rise to wicked grace; consume yon bird of blue,
Adjourn to your throne and take pity as you lame

V. Would raw deny the blistered path,
With chance upon home, may' stunning lass,
Find they instead, having strayed, an alluring glass,
Look on then, worn soul, hope shall not track,
To me, give in, soon and oh' how your skull shall crack,
The agony, sensational, our pain entwined into the past

VI. One stormy night, cast battered knaves,
Stray off the road, cast-iron grins,
Man-made denials; curt, feverish sins,
Dance, should've they could, atop their graves,
Now the wicked chant, a sinister stave,
Sleep now, restless, in shallow tins

VII. The years did pass, each day more dull,
Their minds, now his, spoke with fervor, hot coals,
Into his heart's empty depths they stole,
Within they found no compassion, trust, no soul,
Now saddened, lost, feeling broken they sulk,
How to warm what possesses the pain of cold

VIII. Shy by on flight, one man and horse,
The orange-red sky, a dusk allure,
Pulsing dark, black should not prove truer,
Straying far and from the righteous course,
Did sense the power, and sought the source,
His time fell grim, the hours, fewer

IX. Venture upon the crypt, young brave,
The sea above dances a sky of terror,
The trees did moan, the earth did utter,
Of unspoken truths, surmount the grave,
Found he, dark prince, his final day,
At your infant hand, did he see the error

X. The child turned, and the seas did storm,
Wishing for mother's embrace he did dream,
Nightmares, joys of man, the sun did gleam,
The flowers bloomed, nurtured, kept and warm,
One toss, sharp turn, in one bound, took form,
A ghoulish sight took perch to scheme

XI. Knowing not a father's strict plight,
Forgetting his own mother's sweet hymn,
A plot to cast a future most grim,
The child struck forth to end the light,
And bring forth the loving, oppressive night,
Through tides of ill-fated you now shall swim

XII. He calls the dark, and bodes the ill,
He beckons the empty, and cries the cruel,
The storm that brew, cast a malicious pool,
Of the cursed blood, he has his fill,
The cadavers within the ancient dirt till,
All feast upon the rotted mule

XIII. The child grew full, grew out, grew up,
Devil one wares, yet a demon this bore,
A mind clouded, and a taste for war,
Liquid death, concealed within his cup,
Baleful down, feathered by the tuft,
Swift through the land, a woeful sore

XIV. A mistake was made, a child learns,
To anger the heavens, words fall trite,
A bolt was cast, of iron and spite,
Anguish of children, comfort they yearn,
Crashing to earth of a mighty turn,
Of fallen angels, men's versus shall cite

XV. The land, grown calm, sighed remorse,
Of a decade lost to a tyrant,
The cancered and plagued grew silent,
Of evils men choose the lesser course,
Having spawned and known, the deadly force,
Men only ponder of the idle violent
