The American Dream is one that many people bring to our country when migrating from another country. The American Dream is also the knowledge that anyone who was born an American can be anything they desire as long as they earn what they want. This even includes being President of The United States. That is why Senator Obama epitomizes the American Dream.
If there is one candidate that does embody the American Dream, it is Senator Obama. While President Bill Clinton toted himself as Americas first black President, now we have the real first serious candidate of color to run for the Presidency, Senator Obama is a true American Dream coming full circle.
The first time Senator Obama took the stage at the Democratic Convention in 2004, he was an inspiration to many who had never seen or heard him speak before. It was clear he was passionate, well spoken, and charismatic. Even stanch Republicans had to sit up and take notice of this man who spoke with such passion and conviction.
Since Senator Obama's first appearance on the national stage, he has been a force and a voice of minorities, lower and middle class Americans. Senator Obama has gathered a following unlike Americans have seen since President John F. Kennedy in the 1960's.
For anyone who has listened to Senator Obama speak, he tells of a diverse family background. One of which he admits was hard, growing up in a household that his father left when he was only two years of age. He recounts his mistakes openly. He watched as his mother struggled though daily life, and as she suffered and died at the age of 53.
Senator Obama admits he was lucky to be born an American, and is proud to serve his country. He can relate to single parent households and the struggles that blue-collar middle and lower class Americans face on a daily basis. The Senator understands what it is to be a minority in America. He represents Americans, not minority Americans, not the high-powered lobbyists who seem to run Washington, but what America was meant to be when our forefathers founded this country.
Senator Obama is steadily winning primary after primary partially due to his diverse background. Everyday Americans are able to relate to the struggles he faced as a young man. The Senator is attracting voters who normally do not take advantage of their right to vote, because they see a man who has walked in their shoes and a man who understands the average Americans concerns. In addition, Senator Obama shows integrity in how he has lived and lives his life.
Never has a Presidential Candidate come from the type of background Senator Obama speaks. Never has a Presidential Candidate who is considered a minority made it to the level Senator Obama has in a bid for The White House.
For all of these reasons Senator Barack Obama epitomizes The American Dream. Watching the primaries and seeing him win them time after time shows he is the only candidate who can boast of living The American Dream. Granted the outcome will not be known until November, though Senator Obama is well on his way of reaching his ultimate goal, and many others are hoping he will succeed.
