Album reviews: Rumours, by Fleetwood Mac

Rumours was chosen as the 25th greatest album of all time by the editors of Rolling Stone magazine in Dec. 2003.

"The sixth-best-selling album of all time owed its success to Fleetwood Mac's willingness to turn private turmoil into gleaming, melodic public art. The band's two romantic couples - bassist John and singer-keyboard player Christine McVie, who were married; guitarist Lindsey Buckingham and vocalist Stevie Nicks, who were not - broke up during the protracted sessions for Rumours. The Mac's catchy exposs, produced with California-sunshine polish, touched a nerve; Rumours, a landmark Seventies pop album, ruled Billboard's album chart for thirty-one weeks."

Rolling Stone Magazine, 12/11/03.

My Favorite Fleetwood Mac Album
I only have to listen to one album to hear all my favorite Fleetwood Mac songs. Their Rumours album, which first came out in 1977, has always been one of my favorites. I was a freshmen in high school when this album was originally released. It had a profound impact on me at the time.

At the time the Rumour album was engineered, Fleetwood Mac consisted of drummer Mick Fleetwood, bassist John McVie, keyboardist/singer Christie McVie, guitarist/singer Lindsey Buckingham and singer Stevie Nicks. They all took turns writing songs for the Rumours album with Buckingham, Nicks and Christie McVie being the most prolific.

Due to moving a number of times, and finally giving my record player away to my mom during one of the moves, I hadn't actually listened to the Rumours album in a number of years. Last year while looking at CD's at a local bookstore, I happened to see the section for Fleetwood Mac. I saw the Rumours CD and scooped up a copy.

There isn't a song that I don't enjoy on the Fleetwood Mac Rumours album. I had the pleasure of seeing Fleetwood Mac in concert two years ago. It was an awesome concert with Mick Fleetwood, Stevie Nicks, Lindsey Buckingham and John McVie. The only original member of Fleetwood Mac that was missing was Christie McVie.
