Best blogs on the US election 2008

Blogs have definitely come into their own in the last 6 to 7 seven years. It was the blogosphere that broke the Dan Rather story in the last election year. Washington pays attention to the blogs and so they should. News feeds deliver the news faster than hard copy print. Blogs and political news are one of the most useful tools on the Internet.

Bloggers are people like you and me, workers, homemakers, and generally people who have something to say. Political bloggers are more likely to be professional journalists or political analysts though there are some lay people too. I read blogs voraciously during the elections and have since 2000.

Here are some of the best political blogs:

Powerlineblog.com - a group of attorneys in Minnesota write this right-wing blog and have their own points of view on the news. They are very likable and have gained millions of daily readers in the past few years. I used to read them regularly, but have moved to other sources. John Hindraker, Scott Johnson and Paul Mirenhoff man this blog. Powerlineblog.com

DailyKos - Markos Moulitsas Zuniga founded this award winning left-wing blog. He gets about 600,000 hits per day and has been at the top of the blogging world since 2002. People who have posted include former President Jimmy Carter, Nancy Pelosi and numerous senators and congress men and women. Zuniga was named the most successful entrepreneur by NYT.

Little Green Footballs -Charles Johnson is the owner and founder of this blog. It was this blog that got broke the story of Dan Rather, 60 Minutes and the memo scandal. He gets about 100,000 hits per day. Littlegreenfootballs.com

NoLeft Turns -John M Ashcroft Center for Public Affairs at Ashland University in Ashland, Ohio. This site is a treasure trove of information. Noleftturns.com

MyLeftWing -lots of information and rants. UTube and online stores. Adult language and a very liberal. Myleftwing.com

My favorite site for gathering information is, Real clear politics. Real clear is not a blog but is like a clearinghouse for information. It has links to other sites, lots of polls and latest news on candidates. It is far superior to The Drudge Report and has news from both political parties. I recommend this site for people who want concise information all on one site. Realclearpolitics.com

You would be surprised at what you learn from political blogs. If you're a writer, you hit paydirt with political blogs, and if you need to check your facts before you publish, there is no place like factcheck.org.
