'Street people' - Who are they?

HOMELESSNESS: Who do you help?

It's 1948 and Andy has been traveling all night. Exhausted, he moves toward the open sliding door of the train as it slows through the modest Iowa town. He pans back and forth looking for his next meal. There it was. He makes a jump when he feels the train is at its slowest point. With his small sack of personal items draped over his right shoulder Andy begins his approach. Not towards a cafe or restaurant, but a little white building at the end of the dirt road, the one with a bell, steeple and stained glass window. The living quarter's next door is where he would, hopefully, find his opportunity.

As Andy cautiously made his way up the broken concrete walkway he turned his smug countenance to a disheartened feature, something he had mastered over the years of his long American tour. He softly, but purposefully, knocked on the door of this humble cottage. The door opened and there stood a young ruddy-faced pastor, Charles, with a Bible in his left hand. This was his morning devotion time. "Hello", Charles greeted. With his hat secured with both hands Andy replied; "hello pastor, my name is Andy, Andy Price. I was traveling through town and the good Lord said go speak to My faithful servant. So here I am pastor, just like the good Lord asked". Not wanting to offend the good Lord Charles cautiously invited him in. Andy thanked him with "oh, thank you pastor, thank you much".

As both men sat in a sparsely decorated living space Charles asked; "what can I do for you, Andy"? With his face looking even sadder than before Andy began his story: "well pastor, I'm just another lost child of God looking for relief. I have no family, no job. I haven't eatin' in days. Could you spare a hungry soul some grub"? "Sure", Charles said reluctantly. "Why don't you have a seat in the kitchen". Andy perked up; "Oh thank you pastor, thank you much. I knew the good Lord sent me to the right place".

Andy sat in one of the brown wooden chairs and was surprised to see Charles approach with a quart of milk, a cereal bowl and a box of cornflakes. "What's this", Andy asked? Placing the items on the table Charles replied; "your breakfast". With an appalled tone Andy inquired; "I was hoping you'd have some bacon and eggs. I'm not much into cornflakes". Charles looked at Andy and said; "I don't have much nor do I have bacon and eggs. Not for you, myself or my wife. But we do have cornflakes and I'm willing to give you
