Everyone knows pretty much what to eat without knowing the exact calories or fat grams, so restaurants should not be required to list those things. There are certain foods that should be avoided all together like pork and fried foods. People could order grilled chicken whenever they go to a restaurant to be on the safe side. Garden salads with reduced fat or fat free salad dressing is an excellent choice to avoid going off ones diet whenever eating out in restaurants. Restaurants might charge people more money for the food that is lower in calories just to make more money off people, because they have the calories listed on their menu.
Many people are going to eat whatever they want to eat regardless of fat grams or calorie content, so it would be a waste of time to list the calories and fat grams on their menus. If restaurants wish to list the calories and fat grams on their menus then it is alright, but it should not be a requirement. If restaurants really want to appeal to people that watch their diet then they will automatically list the calories and the fat grams on their menus. There are healthier places to eat than just burger joints and fried chicken restaurants and that's where most people will go if they are watching their calories and fat grams.
There are many people that do not even eat out, because they like to eat healthy and prepare healthy food for themselves and their family. Most of the time it is better not to even eat in a restaurant if anyone is on a diet because of their health. Restaurants might not even tell the truth about the calories and fat grams in their food anyway, if they were required to do so. Most food that is good is loaded with calories and fat grams, so there would probably not be many choices for people wanting less calories and fat grams at most restaurants. It is probably better to go to restaurants that serve only healthy food than to try to go to just any restaurant to eat healthy food. I guess it is true what they always say buyer beware.
It is up to consumers to take care of themselves and stay away from unhealthy foods. Restaurants are not going to take care of people if they become sick because of the way that they ate and the foods that they ate. People should take care of their bodies and not worry about what restaurants do or do not list calories and fat grams on their menus. It might seem harsh, but people are to inform themselves about the basic calories and fat grams of all foods and make wise choices about which restaurants that they choose. Educating ones self with the values of food contain can go a long way toward a healthy lifestyle.
