The generation we are living in now is definitely in for some interesting years as the world of gaming get a lot more members of people sitting in front of the computer all day playing games. There is a big chance in such resulting in a lot of medical problems naturally as it is not healthy to sit stationed in front of the computer all day. I fear we might live in a generation that will have a high amount of people with diabetes as well as possible other more mental problems.
Video games known as MMORPG's these days mostly referring to World of Warcraft with a immense playerbase does launch a enormous stress factor on its players. The players will have to spend hours and hours daily playing to archive what they want in the game and they will generally play way too much. Way more than what is advised and what is healthy. And unlike what many people say, there are not only people without jobs in their moms basement doing this. There are students, adults in full time job and well all sorts of people play World of Warcraft. And a lot let it affect their life in a negative way. Coming to school or work tired after a long night of World of Warcraft can and will lead to stressful days were it will feel like you have two full time jobs as you work either at your job or at school all day to come home to World of Warcraft were you "just" need to do something before you got to bed.
There is other things MMORPG's affect that might be just as unhealthy. When I were a gamer, I would sacrifice meals if I didn't have time to eat, that being very often actually. I often ended up on one meal a day if there were a weekend with no school to eat lunch at. And that meal would often be a frozen pizza stuck in the oven to not sacrifice too much time off from the playing. Drinking soda and eating candy to keep myself from being hungry while playing.
There used to be another issue in World of Warcraft where one of the battlegrounds (A battleground being a player versus player place where people fight each other to gain rewards) could last for over 24 hours, and a lot of people kept playing until the end. And if that alone isn't sick enough you were hardly allowed to take a break as you get automatic kicked out from the battleground if you stood still for more than a couple of minutes. It was not enough time to go to the bathroom and it was not enough time to eat, so it mostly lead to at least me either rushing bathroom like a hero or skipping it, and eating one meal a day presumably another pizza.
MMORPG affect peoples health, at least the people that let it happen to them. It is their own fault, so I can't say I blame World of Warcraft for what it did to me as they didn't twist my arm, heck I even paid for it. So it is optional which lead me to conclude its not a big issue, but it can be for people making it so.
