The Secret is actually an open secret. The secret is the art of being, such as being the man or woman without guile. It is having the freedom to say and do things without letting your emotions get the better of you. It is that simple, it is that hard. In life all things work well when you are not involved in the muck of the moment. Challenges are so easy to deal with from the comfort of the armchair theory. You know what I mean. For instance otherwise well informed adults become authorities on childrearing, without the benefit of childrearing practice. Then there are experts on financial success who build their reputation on limited success. You know the many varieties.
Applying the secret is one of those things you do without realizing it or thinking about it. It is the Zen thing or living in the moment. It is being the being. That is why it is an open secret. Most of us know that we know it, but the application can be difficult.
Then when someone lives by applying the secret, it is odd and wrong for us. I recently had a quest who I would described as a freeloading cheapskate, just because he made no effort to help around. He made no effort or contribution with the meal making, kitchen clean up, and nothing, etc, nothing. It did not even occur to him that he could take his hosts out for dinner. Or buy one days groceries. Or at least buy the beer he drank. That kind of person is very wrong. That kind of person is living or applying the secret. Living without angst is applying the secret.
Applying the Secret Financially
The guy in the above paragraph has it figured out, except he would not fit in to many cliques or even communities. Actually he knows the secret of the wealthy, which is hoard the loot and live well under your means. Most people don't have the wealthy mentality, not even richest celebrities. Actually, I read about Sir Paul McCartney and his big birthday bash some years ago. He had a pay bar at his glamorous party. That is classical wealthy state of mind, which is the close to my money attitude.
The Life and Theological Secret
In theological terms, the secret is how you relate yourself to other people, to God, and spiritual things. In spiritual matters, the stark reality is to take no prisoners. The spiritual is black and white, the good and the bad. To be a good spiritual warrior, you need to be astute, without guile, and lead by the Spirit of God. Most spiritual people, however, are very sign and emotion driven. They have a big blind spot, which might be the design of God. That blind spot means that people have to trust God.
I have no such gifts. I try to compensate by insight but that is faulty as the next thing. There is no secret, no short cuts. Applying the secret is being lead by the Spirit of God. It also means not trusting every "voice" you hear. The bible says we should not trust every "angle of light."
Applying the Secret has many meaning. It has hidden meaning and false leads. That is why we have so much trouble with applying it to our lives.
