The pleasure we derive from mingling with the animals through our television screen keeps us tuned to the Animal Planet channel with its outstanding presentations on wildlife. The fabulous photography that allows us to enter the world of animals is absolutely stunning at times, giving us views we could never otherwise hope to see. Mutual of Omaha's Wild Kingdom gives us an up-close and personal look at the Black Rhino, the Snow Leopard and the Cheetah to name a few.
Apart from the wildlife programs we have come to love, the Animal Planet channel also has its fair share of domestic animal documentaries, looking at the experiences of pets and how they recover from traumatic experiences as in Animal Precinct based in New York. Pet Rescue was an extremely popular series when it was first aired on BBC television with its host Rolf Harris. This is now a regular feature on Animal Planet as a domestic alternative to the jungle wildlife programs.
AFFINITY.
Animal lovers the world over will tune in to Animal Planet due to their strong affinity with living creatures. For some, the attraction is the dog and cat variety of program while others favor the treks into the wild to get among the Big Cats or see re-runs of Steve Irwin, the Crocodile Hunter in action. Whatever our taste, Animal Planet will have something lined up in their program schedules to keep us enthralled.
Perhaps more than anything else, the attraction of Animal Planet is the opportunity for us to mingle with animals we would never get to see up close, even at a zoo. To watch these magnificent creatures in their own habitat, interacting with their own species and competing with others for territory is at times truly magnificent. The camera work nowadays is brilliant giving us crystal clear, close-up images of all kinds of creatures in all manner of situations.
BEAUTY.
What we can see at a local zoo pales into insignificance when compared with the visual beauty of Animal Planet presentations. We get to see wild animals stalk and capture other creatures. We can watch the Polar Bear move around in its own natural environment rather than in the confines of a pen at the local zoo.
The Animal Planet channel is a truly entertaining and educational medium that has helped us all get that bit closer to the animal kingdom, giving us visual treats of all kinds of stunning and unusual creatures, and all from the comfort of our armchair.
