you'll find Old Marco Village, home to the first inhabitants. Most of the marinas and numerous water activities are found just north of the new Judge Jolley Bridge (County Road 951), as well as the two public beaches: Tigertail Beach, which is actually behind a small island and doesn't front the Gulf and South Beach. There is another beach, but it requires a resident pass to enter, but since most people are either guests at a hotel or live on Marco Island, a beautiful day of sunning, shelling, or looking for buried treasure at any beach is not a problem. There are also public beaches that you can only access by boat, including Hideaway Beach, Coconut Island, Cape Romano, and Keewaydin Island.
Marco Island is unique because you'll find millionaires hobnobbing with fishermen at many of the "chickee" bars about what fish were caught, but fishing isn't the only thing to do on the Island. There's golf, of course, and shopping at the Marco Towne Center Mall or at the waterfront Esplanade Shoppes, but most tourists just want to relax and enjoy the great weather and beautiful beaches.
If you're planning to visit Marco Island, remember that the rainy season occurs during the months of June through October and the humidity is high. If you're staying on the beach, the ocean breezes will always cool you down; but if you're planning to go fishing in the backwaters of the Everglades, it can get pretty warm. The best months to visit are December, January and February when it's dry and high temperatures average in the 70s, but be prepared for crowds because that's the time when everyone likes to visit.
