Not only has water been proven to boost metabolic functions of the body, but water also helps reduce how hungry you feel. Drinking a glass of water before you eat aids in digestion and helps you eat less because you will feel fuller. As an added bonus, drinking ice water over room temperature water burns an extra nine calories per glass. That's twenty-five calories for ice water and 16 for room temperature water.
Fiber and lean proteins are good for your metabolism as it takes more energy for your body to break them down and digest them. Turkey, chicken and fish are good low fat choices for proteins. Lots of whole-grains, fruits, vegetables and beans can supply you with your daily amount of fiber. It is recommended that you get between twenty-five and thirty-five grams of fiber a day.
Which fruits and vegetables can help the most? Dark green leafy vegetables are the best to eat to get your fiber and other essential nutrients for your body. Tomatoes can help over time to flush fat out of your body while supplying fiber. Blueberries contain only eighty calories for a cup and four grams of fiber.
Green tea has been shown to boost metabolism without containing all the caffeine of coffee. Research has shown that green tea increases the calories burned during your bodies process of burning and digesting food by 4%. It also helps reduce sugar cravings. And because it doesn't contain calories, you can drink as much of it as you want.
Eating spicy foods like hot peppers and curry can boost your metabolic rate. These spicy foods increase your body temperature and elevate your heart rate thereby raising your metabolism. Cooking with cayenne pepper and ginger are easy ways to utilize these benefits.
An added benefit of eating hot peppers is that their natural heat ingredient capsicum act as a blood thinner reducing your risk of blood clots. Be careful of eating too many peppers though if you already have a health problem of thin blood.
Breakfast is an important meal for anyone looking to increase their metabolism. It also begins your energy supply for the day helping you maintain activity to burn more calories.
Just because you are doing all you can to raise your metabolic rate, you can't expect to eat all you want of anything you want and still lose weight. These good for your foods will be fighting a losing battle if you don't maintain a sensible diet and exercise three to five times a week.
