Celebrity hair-care secrets

Sitting back and watching the glittering stars of Hollywood walk up the red carpet at the Oscars 2008, I found myself wondering how they managed to make their hair look so perfectly styled and beautiful. Never when I go out can I pull off the effortless side sweep or casual pony tail but yet the stars seem to look radiant without looking like they have just spent a sweltering four hours in a hairdresser's chair. So how do they do it ?

Stylist v Colorist
It is well known fact at the top of the hair industry that the best stylists (those that cut the hair into the style you want) and the best colorists are not necessarily the same person. One person may be awesome at chopping your hair into a sexy look but if you ask them to color your hair they flinch and vice-versa. Most celebrities go to top salons where there are different experts for cutting and coloring, this gives them overall the best hairstyle with the right cut and the right color for them. A top class stylist will be able to advise you on what cut with suit your face shape (for example if you have a round face don't go for a rounded bob because this will only make your face appear rounder) and also advise what style to go for according to the texture of your hair (for example if you have thick hair avoid shorter cuts). The colorist on the other hand will be able to offer you top advice on what color will suit you and the practicality of a drastic color change. Pop star and actress Jessica Simpson had a short hairstyle in a brassy blond color according to her now stylist and only with the expertise of his salon was she able to be transformed into the starlet she is today. Naturally, you pay for what you get. The top salons do charge Hollywood star prices but if you are looking for a major change in style and color you could just book a consultation at a top salon for their advice but if you do decide to have your hair transformed in one of the leading hairdressers it will be money well spent.

Trends
Most celebrities would agree that just going along with what is in and what isn't can be boring. If they all did that I would have been sat watching the Oscars last night and watching all the ladies walking down the red carpet in the same style dresses and the same hairstyle..how boring would that be. What is most important is that you choose the look that is right for you, regardless of what the season's hottest look is. Look at Tilda Swinton for example, her bright hair and short crop would not suit us all
