your people skills
Be friendly and know the support staff, both at work and your customer's place of business. It helps to know the secretary or personal assistant, you will need their help and many times they make the appointments. Avoid fraternizing, but cultivate healthy friendships. Work on being a people's person and cultivate an image of approachability and warmth.
5. Networking
This is an ever more important skill in today's business environment. This is not a difficult skill, just be interested in people, ask about their jobs, take their business cards, give them yours and the rest is history. Know who the players are in your industry and track their careers, you can learn a lot from observing them.
6. Consistency
Be persistent and don't just accept "no" for an answer. Keep calling and probing for that opening. If you believe in yourself and your product your customer will eventually afford you the opportunity to prove it. Keep your promises. This will inspire trust and loyalty in your customer, save you a lot of trouble and spare you unnecessary pressure.
7. Honesty is the best policy
I know this sounds like a clich, but I assure you it is not. Honesty is such a rare characteristic in this day and age, that it will immediately distinguish you from your competitors and colleagues. It may be the longer route, but is by far the sturdiest foundation to build on
I trust that these tips will help you in achieving that sought after title of being a "top salesperson". Good luck with those sales and remember, nobody will believe in you if you do not believe in yourself.
