By now, we have all heard the red neck jokes by Jeff Foxworthy, and those jokes are changing the way society looks at being a redneck. When it comes down to it, we all have a bit of redneck in us, if we are among the working class here in America.
Rednecks sit and drink a beer as they relax and watch television on a Sunday because that is their rest day. Many of those of us in the working class work five or six days a week and we need to kick back and relax on that seventh day. Perhaps you work Sunday and have a different day off that is okay to kick back and have a beer any day, as it is your right here in America.
Rednecks do not always keep their lawns mowed to perfection because they are to busy trying to earn a living in America and cannot hire a lawn service. Perhaps the lawn goes un-mowed for two or three weeks, as the redneck is working at twelve to fourteen day stretch trying to support his family. I am not going to mow my lawn if either I have worked so hard on multiple days, or the town frowns upon brining a goat into do the grass removal.
Many rednecks have two or three cars, some work, and some may not run at all. We have so many cars because every redneck in the working class household needs to work in order to survive. The non-working cars will be removed when we can get the time to haul it to the junk yard, this costs money of which is very limited in a working class family.
Gretchen Wilson's song I am a red neck woman is one of my all time favorite songs for many reasons. She pretty much describes my life, I penny pinch and shop at Wal-Mart for everything including my unmentionables. I keep my Christmas lights hanging outside because it takes time to hang them and I hate hang them in late November when the temperature outside is hovering around 20 degrees above zero.
Yes, there usually is a baby on my hip, now days it is my grandchildren but one of my own children is usually close to my hip. I am a red neck woman, and there is no way I could ever live in high society and be happy.
My boyfriend although he does not like to admit it becomes a red neck if he works outside too long in the summer and gets sun burnt. He thinks country music is red neck music, and he is right country music is all about the working class people of America working hard to survive.
I am proud to call myself a redneck woman, and I would not have it any other way. I am proud that I am able to work hard for the things I want in life, and I take pride in my possessions knowing they were not purchased with a credit card.
