Great cleaning tips using vinegar

Do you recall the expression, "An apple a day will keep the doctor away"? It's true. Apples are very healthy; in fact, they are a good source of potassium and minerals. Most of us are fully aware that apple cider vinegar derives from the apple; however, what many people are not aware of is the fact that vinegar can be used for a variety of purposes, other than an essential condiment within the kitchen. Vinegar is actually an excellent antiseptic, unique cleanser, and inexpensive solution for many common problems. Ideally, it is better to use apple cider vinegar for medicinal purposes while white vinegar is usually preferred for tackling cleaning and outdoor troubles.

In and Around the House

Eliminate kitchen odors. Simply simmer a cup of vinegar and water in a small pot on the stove while cooking. The odors will disappear. Vinegar is also great for eliminating tobacco smoke odors. Use small disposable containers and fill about half way with cider vinegar. Place in areas where smokers frequent to get rid of the smoke odors. Refresh every 2 or 3 days.

Tenderize and marinate meat. This will not only kill bacteria but will also help with keeping the meat tender. Use about a quarter cup of vinegar. Marinate overnight and cook.

Freshen up cut flowers. Add 2 tablespoons vinegar and 1 teaspoon sugar for each quart of water.

Get rid of lint in clothes. Add 1/2 cup of vinegar to the rinse cycle.

A mixture of salt and vinegar will clean coffee and tea stains from chinaware.

Unclog a drain. Pour a handful of baking soda down the drain and add 1/2 cup of vinegar. Rinse with hot water.

Clean the refrigerator by washing with a solution of equal parts water and vinegar.

Clean the microwave by boiling a solution of 1/4 cup of vinegar and 1 cup of water in the microwave. Will loosen splattered on food and deodorize.

Kill germs on bathroom fixtures by using one part vinegar to one part water in a spray bottle. Spray the bathroom fixtures and floor, then wipe clean.

Clean soap scum, mildew, and grime from bathtub, tile, and shower curtains. Simply wipe the surface with Vinegar and rinse with water.

Stubborn stains can be removed from the toilet by spraying them with vinegar and brushing vigorously. The bowl may be deodorized by adding 3 cups of distilled vinegar. Allow it to remain for a half hour, then flush.

A quarter cup in a quart of water makes a good window cleaner, dry with newspapers. Your windows will sparkle!

Outdoors
Kill grass and weeds on walks and driveways. Pour full strength
