TV network reviews: Animal Planet

"Animal Planet" was spawned from "The Discovery Channel" back in the early 1990s. The Discovery Channel was one of the few channels that I watch to this very day. In the past before many networks have made the push for more reality TV shows, Discovery Channel was one of the many channels that I had enjoyed watching. Animal Planet was focused on one thing and one thing only: animals, both wild and domestic.

This is one of the few channels that had stuck with its main focus, the relationship between both humans and animals. It still runs on its slogan: "Same Planet. Different World." Animal Planet explored the worlds of many animals. The network is stationed in Silver Spring, Maryland. It does make it logical that Animal Planet made a multi-year partnership with the National Aquarium in Baltimore located in Inner Harbor, Baltimore in the state of Maryland.

The network has done a good job so far in regards to maintaining its focus in regards to nature-based programming. Of course there are plenty of reality TV shows on Animal Planet. But, those shows are more realistic than the reality TV shows that we see on MTV, CBS, or NBC. The number of reality TV shows on Animal Planet was refreshing and enlightening. It has done a good job of realistically detailing the life in the other "worlds."

One such example of shows would be the "Croc Files" which was hosted by the late Australian naturalist, Steve Irwin. Three of Irwin's TV shows would be on Animal Planet. Irwin's next show would be "The Crocodile Hunter Diaries." Irwin's third show on Animal Planet would be "New Breed Vets" where the show would document treating all sorts of animals from the wild. Irwin had died while New Breed Vets was in production.

These are one of the few examples of the quality programming that Animal Planet has to offer. The shows throughout Animal Planet would educate viewers on the relations of humans and animals. But, Animal Planet would go in-depth on different animals.

One such example would be "Breed All About It," which headlines one breed of dog in each episode. The show would give facts about the breed and what tips to help those that own such pets.

There's "Buggin' with Ruud" which is a dhow that follows the adventures of entomologist Ruud Kleinpaste on his adventures when it comes to insects.

There was "E-Vet Interns" which covered interns working at a veterinary hospital.

The shows that Animal Planet offers does more than scratch the surface of zoology; Animal Planet goes in-depth on zoology which involves the study of animals. In short, Animal Planet is a zoology enthusiast's dream come true.

For those that are sick and tired of the reality TV shows on the other networks or those that are fascinated with the study of wildlife can possibly find salvation in Animal Planet. So far, the network has stuck to its main points. As a result, Animal Planet remains one of the most popular TV networks in North America.

Animal Planet does a good job of teaching about wildlife without exploiting it.
