If there is one network that is truly for the entire family, it would have to be Animal Planet. This includes the pets in the family. I have spoken with several pet owners whose pets watch Animal Planet. My cat is no exception. The programming is geared toward all ages - and apparently all species. Here are my thoughts and opinions on the Animal Planet.
Originality: (Rating- 9/10)
Though shows about animals have been around for many years, the Animal Planet has brought more diversity to the shows. We use to be able to watch "Mutual Omaha's Wild Kingdom" and the occasional dog show, but now we have a lot more from which to choose. The concept of one channel dedicated to programs about animals was a magnificent idea. Launched on June 1, 1996, this network has grown with the times and will continue to do so with its programming.
Variety: (Rating - 10/10)
Animal Planet has programming that ranges from comedy to drama. They cover animals ranging from insects to our domestic pets. We can see shows about orangutans, crocodiles, cats and dogs, just to name a few. There are different programs with a variety of tones, bringing quite a bit of diversity. I would rank this section as a 9/10, but I started thinking about the facts that this show appeals to not only the people in the household, but also the animals. I don't think you can get any more diverse than that. Therefore, Animal Planet definetly has earned a rating of 10 out of 10 for variety.
Quality of Shows: (Rating - 10/10)
The shows on the Animal Planet are spectacular. My top three favorite shows on this network are "The A-List", "Animal Precinct", and "Planet's Funniest Animals". "The A- List" is a show that will profile a specific characteristic, such as "the most curious" and they have a countdown (from 10 to 1) of which animals are the most of this certain characteristic. It's informative and fun to watch. "Animal Precinct" is a real life show that follows New York City animal law enforcement agents as they respond to reported crimes. The show is sometimes sad and difficult to watch due to some of the abuse of animals, but once I start watching it, I can't stop. "Planet's Funniest Animals" is a show that shows funny videos of animals. The concept is that simple, but the show is a lot of fun to watch. This is the show that brings my entire family together (including the cat). The Animal Planet has shows that will have you thoroughly engrossed. This network is truly addicting.
Overall: (Rating - 10/10)
This network definitely has a "wow" facture about it. The programming is phenomenal and the diversity of programming is brilliant. Most shows are wholesome and appropriate for children. The network brings a lot of insight and knowledge to the viewers. The Animal Planet is unquestionably one of the best networks that exists today.
