Poetry: Pain in life

He said:

If I could die tonight I would,
just willing my heartbeat to cease,
and breathing my last breathe,
deep and slow, calm, a final release.

I have tasted so many flavours,
of hopes and dreams so sweet,
Then doused in bitter flames and soured,
I played this role complete.

I watched the suns dawns and painted sunrises,
and bathed in its warmth, revelled in its vices,
I have known her shadows, hidden and long
Nothing is new now, something went wrong.

Sensations came and passed me by,
A river of emotions through my heart flowed,
I knew love, joy, laughter, and met sorrow,
Now disappointment is the pain, echoed.

Released now, from your grasp at long last,
So call it selfish as I escape in silence,
This soul seeks rest, solace and freedom,
A now I rise on golden wings to my eternal nest.
