How to beat depression without prescription drugs

It's hard for myself at times to enjoy life without prescription medicine. However in the past few years I've been on it and off them. I do go to support groups which help out a lot. It's important to have a good support groups. Going to groups who also suffer from depression I am finding very important for myself.

I probably do not get enough of support groups, lately because I have been hit with a major depression recently. My girlfriend and I have been on the skids and it has been difficult recently to deal with my misery! Suicidal thoughts have crept up severely at times.

I find that my anxiety combined with low self esteem and fears have led to severe depression. When I pray deeply the Lord answers my prayers sometimes too slowly because of the suffering can be very overwhelming.

Affirmations also help out a lot, although a combination of different techniques are the key difference it combating my major depression. Having faith and a good set of friends help out a lot as well. It is important to have a positive attitude. For example I woke up this morning thinking that things are going to improve for myself. Some times I tell myself things are going to get better.

I still need room for improvement! Saturday nights are the worst for me. When I don't communicate with at least one lady friend either by phone or by physically spending time with them I feel at my absolute worst. Some times I go to to a bar without having any alcohol. I usually can meet a lady who is there alone or with a female friend. I just smile and click with them pretty fast. These types of relationships haven't worked for me long term. However they are a temporary cure.

I read married men usually live much longer then single men. I am single and hate it. I need to continue building my self esteem as well as other social qualities. I am Jewish who got caught up in the semi orthodox way of life and I find very few women want a man like myself. although I believe in some of the principles I find it very difficult trying to marry. I find many Christian women who are more interested in me then Jewish women. So it is very difficult to commit to a Christian woman.

Any way this subject is about overcoming depression, and not my love life. But by understanding more about myself and statistics I have hope.

Some books and tapes I use are "What to Say to Yourself When You Talk to Yourself," "Inner Joy." Subliminal tapes I use are 'Overcoming Anxiety,' 'How to Attract Love,' 'How to Attract Money,' 'Peace of Mind.' A good set of tapes are The Psychology of Winning by Dennis Waitly.

It is a never ending chore to stay afloat combating depression. But constant learning and reapplying certain techniques is important. Also understanding that depression is anger turned inward is important too. Although I am not a doctor I do not recommend going without medication without discussing with your doctor first.

Life is a challenge and the more compassionate people you have in your life the better. Good luck and happy trails.
