Positive emotional effects of a scented home or apartment

When you first enter a person's home or apartment, the scent that first hits your nose will set the mood for your entire experience. This is something we all know, which is why we try so hard to keep our personal places smelling clean and fresh. Think for a moment about the last time you visited your best friend's home. Were all the odors hidden, or masked by other scents? Or were you confronted by other scents that assailed your nostrils? If her home smelled pleasant and nice, you are more likely to remember the experience as a positive visit.

The way places smell are as much of an impact on our thoughts and memories as the actual experience of being there. A nice, expensive hotel room can be ruined by a moldy smell, and a dismal looking room can be lifted by a clean and fresh scent. That explains why we spend thousands of dollars every year on items designed to change the scent of our homes, and mask those unpleasant odors.

Having a great smelling home can significantly effect how others view our space. If your home smells strongly of old trash, or dogs than those that visit will remember those scents. However, if you burn a few scented candles, and your home smells more strongly of something else, your guests will remember that as well.

When it comes to the opposite sex, scents in your home can help your personal life too. Studies have shown that men are strongly attracted to scents that resemble baking such as vanilla or cinnamon. Simply burning vanilla scented candles, or cinnamon incense can strongly increase the desire levels in your significant other. Men are subconsciously drawn to these scents, and may be completely unaware of why they suddenly feel so strongly attracted to you. For single women, using cinnamon and vanilla scents in your home may turn your close male friend into your significant other.

Women too are strongly attracted to sweeter scents. One study found that the scent of black licorice can heighten female senses, and increase their levels of desire. By the same token, scents such as vanilla, chocolate, and sugar can remind us of our childhood, and lower our stress levels. Sugar cookies and other baking scents are some of the most popular selling candles available.

Depending on what impression you want to make with your home, there are different scents that you might use. Each scent tends to stimulate a different part of the brain, leading to different reactions. Those baking scents described above can lower inhibitions, and make visitors
