US elections 2008: Michelle Obama under fire

be done intricately, and with much thought. This comment leads me to believe that Mrs. Obama is incapable of such. Hence, her comment can, as well as should be considered a racist remark. I took offense to it when reading it in the newspaper. I wonder; Did she read the script wrong? For me, it was the first thought that popped into my head after reading the statement. A quote which, I must add, did not include the word 'really', which does not make the statement better, but far worse.

Michelle managed to back-peddle, though of course. Clarifying her statement on television, claiming that she was struck by the number of people in attendance of the rallies that she had been attending, as well as the voters that seem to be "trying to figure it all out". I assume that Michelle must have thought that at said rallies, she and Barack would be alone together? The whole point of a rally is to, rally your forces, with many people. Hmmm... Also what are said voters trying to figure out exactly? Trying to figure out how to punch the hole, or touch the screen, or perhaps find a voting station? I am nothing less than perplexed. Or perhaps she was referring to the fact that the voters are trying to figure out why her husband is so popular, because that is my query. I am not trying to figure out how to vote, as I do so at every chance, nor do I need to figure out whom I am voting for because Obama's 'little helpers' are doing a bang-up to of assuring me that he is not able for the job.

It must be that the Obama's have the American public held within a trance. Person after person is hypnotized by his 'magic words' and 'miraculous plans', that are mere good intentions, or simply uttered in a more ornamental way than his rivals. When Obama's name is mentioned (and in case you hadn't noticed, Barack is used in lieu of Obama, because the latter is far too reminiscent of Osama, you know of terrorist fame?), the first comment that is made is "he is such a good speaker". Apparently he acquired the oral qualities that his wife lacks. A good speaker does not ensure a good President. A good speaker ensures only that whatever is articulated from said speaker will be taken well, or said eloquently. Well, I am not sure about you, but when a President informs me that there has been yet another terrorist attack, I do not expect to be smiling throughout the statement.

It should not have been a surprise for those over at the Obama camp that this comment would have caused such problems. If Mrs. Obama becomes my coveted and idolized First Lady, she had better learn a little grace under fire, because this will not be the only bullet (I mean a literal bullet, not an actual one) that she will have to duck. People of America are highly critical, and anything that is said by someone in such a position will always have pros and cons. In my opinion, Michelle did not clarify her comment very well, even after given a second chance. She should ask her hubby for advice the next time she is handed her well written speech from the professionals that follow her around. It is clear that she does not handle directions very well, or is a lesser actor than her husband. Being under fire is simply par for the course during elections. If anyone thinks that Mrs. Obama is being 'singled out' or taken advantage of, or used as an example had better start paying attention. She was not the first to be under fire, and she will not be the last, by any means.
