How to incorporate exercise on your next vacation

People often associate exercise with strain, boredom and hard work. No wonder most of us would not even think about it while on holidays. But exercise does not have to be a struggle. Here are some great ways to get moving and enjoy yourself at the same time.

If you have not exercised before, now is a great time to start. On the other hand, if you are already in an exercise routine, but feel that you need a break you probably do. Your routine will not suffer if you put it on hold for a week or two. In the meantime, you can still be active in different ways.

Play with children. We all have a lot to learn from children. They are creative, live in the present moment and rejoice in every little part of the world around us. They have endless energy and are never still. So put down your newspaper, turn off the TV and join your children, grandchildren, nephews and nieces. You will be spending quality time with them and burning some calories as a bonus. And you will be surprised how much younger you feel at the end of the day.

Walk. Walking is easily incorporated into your day no matter where you are spending your vacation. You can walk to shops and restaurants or just take a moment with your most loved person to enjoy each other's company. This is also the best way to see the sights, mingle with the locals and feel the atmosphere of the place. If there is a beach, forest or mountain nearby, reconnect with nature by taking a walk rather than driving.

Dance. Put on your favorite music and make up your moves. Express your emotions through dance and you will not only improve your physical wellbeing, but also feel free, more aware and alive. If you are visiting an exotic destination, there is no better way to learn about the culture than to join a local dance class.

Find a buddy. Exercise is much more fun when you have good company. Maybe, you love a game of tennis and so does someone else at your hotel. Or your traveling companion has always wanted to go for a morning jog. Or there is a game of beach volleyball in progress and you have not played for years. Take the opportunity and join in.

You will make the most out of exercise if it is enjoyable. If you are having a good time, you are more likely to start and maintain an exercise routine and you are also going to apply yourself more whole-heartedly. At the end of your vacation, you will feel relaxed and rejuvenated, and eager to bring your new-found active lifestyle into your everyday life.
