Home scenting: Overcoming strong odors

Have you ever walked into someone's home and the strong smell of a litter box just about knocked you over? Or have you ever taken that baby gift to the new mom right after she's changed her baby's reeking diaper? What do you say? Respectively, you'd say nothing at the time, but should they ever ask you, you could pass along these helpful suggestions.

Since odors from animals or dirty diapers are strong and have lingering effects, you might want to stabilize your home with an underlying scent that does not grossly contrast with these smells. The combination could be worse than just the bad odour. Heavy scents like vanilla or soft floral tend to mix with these types of odours and can produce its own unique version of ugh.

What you need is a base scent that is strong enough to overpower these odours without being stuffy. Something spicy like peppermint, orange or sage, or perhaps something more outdoors like fresh cut grass or a woodland forest, or even fresh cut roses. These scents are refreshing and give us a peaceful atmosphere and help the bad odours to die off in a very short time. They will relieve the air of the immediate stench while keeping the rest of the house refreshed with a wonderful clean scent.

How do you do that?

Reed Defusers are an excellent way to keep your home fragrance alive throughout your entire home without interruption. These are vials of your choice of essential oil filled with several reed sticks. The sticks absorb the scented oil and release the fragrance into the air with a fresh and long-lasting scent for literally months without interruption. You don't need to plug them in or turn a switch or light a tea candle. As long as the reeds are in the vial, the fragrance will continue to flow out.

If you keep or one two of these defusers in opposite ends of your home, it will be filled with a constant lingering scent so that even the worse invading odours won't last but a few minutes. And the sure way of cutting those few minutes down to almost no minutes would be to keep cans of air spray of the same scent on hand for those sudden attacks.

You can also use wax tarts or scented votives that will each burn for many hours giving off a consistent and even scent throughout your home. Shorter lived products like plug ins, air fresheners or potpourris are also very useful in keeping the flow of your scent going in the smaller rooms, as well.

If you keep to one scent throughout your home, the unpleasant odours can be destroyed almost immediately without interruption of your home scent. And, of course, you can change your scent periodically to suit the season or your moods.

Fresh air is always welcoming, and if there's a nice breeze outside and you can open your windows, do that and let the clean fresh air blow through and revive all the air in your home. This will even refresh your base home scent so that when you close your windows, your home will smell wonderful.

You can keep the atmosphere of your home alive with its own personable scent that is refreshing and inviting, in spite of sudden rude odours.
