Give me a beach...any beach. There's nothing like the soothing sound of the surf, the scent of salted air, and the warm sun on my face. I live for these moments. And use them when I'm feeling like an unwrapped Popsicle in the dead of winter. Through my chattering teeth I will myself to think about those sunny, carefree days when winter was a word that wasn't in my vocabulary. Throughout my life, I've been to a number of beaches in many different parts of the country and the Caribbean. It's so hard to say which I like best. It's impossible in fact. I can find beauty in any of nature's wondrous settings, but the beach feeds my soul, it makes me happy, and inspires me to write. I find a calmness that is so deep and profound when I'm strolling on the sand. The rush of the surf tickling my toes, rejuvenates me and I feel like a child again. From east to west, south to north, each beach is as unique as the place it's located in.

New England's rocky coastline is where you'll find me in mid-summer. Newport Beach, RI is perfect for a late summer BBQ while listening to beach bands playing in the distance. Magnificent mansions situated along the cliffs make a spectacular backdrop while sipping a cool drink. The Cliff Walk is an absolute must for hikers and those who just want to stroll along a path of American history. Later, a little bit of shopping downtown always reves up my appetite for the best seafood you'll ever sink your teeth into. You can eat dockside at one of the many local restaurants while boaters sail lazily by. Now that's a perfect day.

Key West may not have the best beaches for sunbathing, but if you like to snorkel, you will find a world of colorful coral and exotic fish just a few feet below the surface. And if it's a perfect sunset your looking for, Key West is THE place. View a fiery sunset slipping slowing into the ocean while savoring a plate of stone crabs and a glass of champaign. You can do this from a surf side restaurant or on a dinner cruise for two. Or party with locals and tourists at Mallory Square, where sunset viewing is an every day celebration. Street vendors, artists and entertainers will join in the fun and give you a most memorable experience. Most of the art that covers my walls has been purchased from the square. Then head downtown to Sloppy Joe's, one of Hemingway's favorite haunts. No wonder he made it his home. The local color gets the writing juices flowing. There's so much to draw from.
