today? Where is the physical evidence? One may need faith to believe that there is a God, but one also needs faith to believe that there is not one.
The biggest problem with evolution is the theory that humans evolved from primates. Genesis 1:26 states, "Then God said 'Let us make man in our image, in our likeness, and let them rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air, over the livestock, over all the earth, and over all the creatures that move along the ground.'" God created Adam, His first human, to rule over His other creatures. Humans are superior beings. It goes on to read in verse twenty-seven, "So God created man in His own image, in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them." Adam was made separately from all other creatures on earth, and "in His own image." God spent more time creating him than He did any other creature. The plants, birds, and beasts were simply spoken into existence. But God personally fashioned Adam's body out of the earth, and breathed the gift of life into him.
Evolutionists argue that human beings are genetically nearly identical with the great apes. This may be true, but there are still many differences between monkey and man. Humans can distinguish good from evil, and have the power of choice rather than acting on instinct. They can argue, wonder where they came from, and contemplate their purpose. Finally, humans possess souls. This means that after a human dies, his/her soul will continue to live for eternity. This gift is not given to primates, or any other being. The soul separates the instinct driven animal from the truly intelligent and special human.
As for the rest of creation, there really is no conflict. Creationism and evolution could, in fact, be one and the same. If science someday proves the evolution theory, that is great. With the exception of the creation of man set aside, it very well could be true. Creationists, however, need not despair. The problem only occurs when God is taken out of the picture.
Consider that perhaps the seven days of creation described in Genesis 1 were not actually the twenty-four hour days society knows today. Nowhere in the Bible is it stated just how long these first days of creation lasted. This concept is known as the Day-Age theory. The six days referred to in the Bible could actually represent six vast geological ages. This would make the evolution theory much more believable. God could have created that first single-celled creature,
