When I first began college,I attended night school.I had a job and did not have the time to attend regular scheduled classes. My major was Biology and the night school at my college was an education school. There were courses I could take. I took Psychology,English, Spanish and film.I enjoyed the courses and it led me to attend the college full-time.Usually night school is for business people or older people who cannot attend normal hours.yet the reality is that to gain a real college degree, one must attend most regular classes at regular times.
I found out soon that biology as a major was going to be unattainable for me. I had started out a year in night school and was headed directly towards a humanities degree which was not what I wanted. Instead ,I checked with the registrar at the college to see if another major was gainable.I found that the college offered a Natural Sciences degree but it was a B.A. rather than a B.S. Since the time I went to that school,I found that the Natural Sciences degree was being changed to computer science and other more applied majors.
Since I graduated I mainly gained blue collar jobs in Mosquito Control, Food Worker, and other industries allied with biology, but I was not capable of really gaining more than a Masters professionally. Those first few semesters at night school had marked my resume as a vocational or lay worker or teacher.
I've been involved in research projects and have done quite complicated work including Microscopy, but the general conclusion people draw when reading a curriculum vitae of mine is that I'm a lay biologist or field technician.
In a way the results have been good.I've always had a job and my employment has been pretty steady since finishing my education.I had to be physically fit;however, and I had to work hard for quite low pay.
My health has been better than most people, and people have been jealous of this. The problem they face is the acceptance that they made a decision in their lives. One must be willing to take chances.Night school may have saved my life in alot of ways.
The insurance cost is high.I've had two injuries and needed medical treatment. I have to take heart medication and developed habits such as smoking. The problem would have been geometrically mor severe if I intellectually had to do what I do physically which was to move mountains.
