There are a variety of timeless costumes for kids available on-line, at your local Target, Walmart, or other department store, or made at home by you. There are the costumes that we have all grown up with, witches, pirates, Gypsies, and clowns, that are relatively easy to make. There are many patterns available if you want to be a little more elaborate, or you can fashion your own design from articles of clothing you already have around the house. Thrift stores are a great place to find things you can use to create your costume, at a very reasonable price.
Children's costumes come in many different styles, based on popular children's cartoons, super heroes, or fairy tales. Some of the more popular costumes are from Disney. You can find Cinderella, Belle, Snow White, Pocahontas, Ariel, and lots of other great costumes for girls. For boys, costumes like Buzz Lightyear and Woody from Toy Story are popular. Other favorites include Spiderman, Superman, Batman, and other superheroes. Costumes based on Star Wars, such as Darth Vader, Luke Skywalker, or Yoda are also quite popular. Children's costumes come in sizes such as small (4-6), medium (7-8), and large (10-12). Remembering to make sure that the child's costume fits properly so they don't trip and fall, and is visible at night is a good idea.
Timeless costumes for toddlers can be based on characters such as, The Cat In The Hat, Winnie The Pooh, Thomas The Train, or Disney characters. There are many adorable costumes such as the Disney princesses, Barbie, Batman, or warm fuzzy animal costumes, designed for toddlers. They come in sizes like 3T and 4T. Toddlers don't do as well in elaborate costumes with excessive pieces. Dress your toddler in a simple costume and they will be much happier.
Costumes for infants also come in a variety of styles. You can find Ladybugs, Bumblebees, Lions, Tigers, and Bears, oh my! Disney Baby Einstein offers all in one plush bodysuits, with attached character hoods. They are embellished on the chest with unique sensory designs, colorful and appealing to baby's growing curiosity. Infant sizes are generally (0-6mos) and (12mos-18mos). Infants will feel comfortable and warm dressed in costumes that offer the one piece bodysuit, they are similar to the pajamas they love, and they will be less likely to want to remove them.
Halloween is a great time to dress up in a costume, but many children enjoy playing dress up all year round. Having a box of dress up clothes available for kids to play with is a great idea. You can use almost anything, your kids will supply the imagination to become princesses, movie stars, super heroes, and more. An old prom dress becomes a dress fit for a queen. Add hats, sunglasses, gloves, scarves, and old purses, and your children will have hours of fun.
