It has been suggested that the New York Times needs to hire outside its own little think-tank. In their "drive-by" hit on McCain, they have eliminated all doubt about their liberal agenda. In fact, they have raised doubt about their ability to report news, even among their fellow liberals.
They did it again by placing an article in which McCain and Iseman deny having had any romantic relationship was on page 20, compared to the original hit's prominent place on page 1. Several news sources pointed out the discrepancies, which is amazing in itself considering the media bias displayed frequently among mainstream media. Media Research Center president Brent Bozell, a well known media watchdog, "took a shot on the Fox News Channel, by saying that The New York Times is giving the National Enquirer a bad name." Well, said Mr. Bozell, or maybe that should be that NYT is making them look good?
Times Executive Editor, Bill Keller, says that "people should judge his paper's reporting as journalism, not any part of any political campaign." I say, uh, you still lose Mr. Keller. Unsubstantiated allegations made on the "feelings of unnamed sources" are not good journalism!
Evidently quite a few democratic news people and reporters agree with Bozell that this story did not have journalistic merit, and was a well-timed political hit. Evidently the NYT has become too over-the-top for even the liberals among us. The New York Times should have held the story for a little bit longer while they came up with some facts to support their allegations.
I know some will toss the blame at McCain and suggest there must be something to the story, but that is neither here nor there. If there is anything to the story, the Times should have dug it out and not led with allegations. I believe this is true whether the target is a Democrat or a Republican. Good journalism reports the facts. It does not print a story like this one without more to go on.
As for McCain, he will rise from this hit with more support than ever, but the NYT may have suffered a mortal hit of their own doing. Believe it or not, standards do exist for good reporting. Unfortunately, NYT has decided they are above those standards. They don't even make a show of conforming to those standards any more.
I personally look on this with anticipation. Maybe, just maybe people will begin to see where the liberal left is trying to lead this country and take a step back by their vote in November. We cannot be a Democratic nation and a socialist nation. We cannot remain the USA we have come to know and love and still become like European countries.
