Promoting your writing on the Internet

Created on: February 23, 2008

Writing isn't enough. Sure it is out there now and people can read it. But when you look at the millions of pages that exist on the internet, it just isn't enough. You can make a little money and have your writing read by writing it and publishing it. But to bring in more traffic and more money you have to take the time to promote it.

Blog About It.
If you have a blog you can share your writing with those that come to your blog. You can add that blog to each and everyone of your profiles and about me pages. This can increase traffic to your blog and share what you are doing with others. You can blog about specific topics and include links to further articles in those topics, or just generally share what you are doing online.

Talk About It.
In much the same way you would talk about your blogs, you can talk about your work. Talk to your friends and relatives. Talk to those you communicate with on message boards and in social networking sites. Use these sources to share what you are up with. You can send them to your blog, link to your about me and profile page, and even specific articles. You can also include links at the bottom of your e-mails using your signature.

Bookmark It.
There are a great number of social bookmarking sites. These sites exist with the purpose of marking good content found on the internet. You can book mark your articles and other writings on the internet at sites like Digg, Del.icio.us, and Stumbleupon. You can also use a service called SocialPoster which will bookmark a page with up to 72 different websites.

Write About It.
It may seem like an odd concept, but with some writing sites you can write about your writing. You can use sites such as Squidoo to promote your writing and the things that you have been doing elsewhere. This can also increase your traffic. Another option is to use articles that expound on a topic as links with sites that allow you to post links to additional information. This can help increase your traffic as well as your expert image in the topic arena.

These things will help get your work promoted and help drive traffic to your pages. This will get you read, and make you money. It might also help get you noticed by publishers and other important people Online. It doesn't take a lot of work, but it does take some work.
