If your expenses aren't in order, stop all those that are not absolutely needed and set a budget to get them in order.
Second, learn about your chosen your goal. Believe it or not, once the race horse is trained to ride, their education continues where they are trained to raced in close quarters with other horses, trained to move up the rail or to bide their time before charging past a foe. All of this training builds their courage for the race. So should you seek out information about your goals. There are many free resources on the Internet and at lending libraries. Learn to distinguish between the good and not so good resources for information about your passion. Join groups of people with similar pursuits, exchange ideas, ask questions. Learn from those who have gone before.
Third, devote real time each day to doing. The race horse in training is exercised nearly day. With out it, he looses fitness and, no matter how well trained, be unable to compete successfully. Don't let yourself become one of those who live a whole alternate life only in their head. Take action and get on with doing what it is that you were put her to do. Try to do it every day, even if it is only in a small way at first. If your passion is painting, then take the brush in hand and paint something. Hang your paintings on the wall, no matter how bad you think they are. If your passion it is designing dog clothing, then put pencil to paper and design, then put needle to cloth and sew. Dress your dog in them or give them as gifts to friends. Show your creations to others, no matter what you think of them good or bad. Not only will you get valuable feed back that will often be much more positive than you expect, you'll begin to establish yourself in your own mind as the person you know that you were meant to be. You'll be grabbing the gold ring and letting the whole world see.
Fourth, take time to enjoy what you are doing and share that joy with others. There is no greater joy than that of two thoroughbreds playing in the pasture. All the aches and pains of training melt away as the two horses, who would compete bitterly on the track, engage in joyful play for the pure pleasure of it in a sunny pasture. It is good for the spirit to find soul mates who appreciate our passions. Push back the keyboard and meet with people who have similar goals. Meet them face to face to explore your shared passions. Share your struggles and your failed projects as well as your successes. Seek out mentors to guide you to that next level. Seek out peers to inspire you to keep on target. It is a time for building up the spirit and bond with those comrades who can relate to your passions in a way that others don't.
Finally, grab every chance to compete' at your potential, even if it is among the novice ranks. When there is the chance to compete or use your potential, grab it with gusto no matter how small the chance. Remember the thoroughbred in the gate, totally in the here and now, focused on the immediate future. Say "yes" to the opportunity and go for it for all you're worth.
That is the simple key to maximizing your innate potential. The key to living a life well lived, instead of a life that has only been survived. Can you imagine any worthier use of your life?
