How to unlock your innate potential

the chance to compete. When the bell rings and the gates open, they go for it without hesitation. Should your hair color, your preference for dumpy clothes or that you slipped up last month prevent you from signing if your potential lies in performing?

Success of the racing thoroughbred is easily recognized in the win photo at the end of the race. For the us, it isn't so easy. When the definition of success eludes us, how will we realize when we've actually grabbed that gold ring? Consider this. Success is not a destination, rather a journey.

The gold ring is in the day to day pursuit of our passions and far easier to grab than you think. The clues to our unique innate potential are found in the longing of the soul and in the chance circumstances that inspire us. Few thoroughbreds understand the concept of winning'. Success for them is, literally, in the running of the race, the exhilaration of competition. Never have I seen the second place horse come back with a frown, kicking at the dirt like he felt he had lost. Instead, they are blowing and bright, they've given their best and are ready to try again. The gold ring is our openness to engage in the chase and to revel in the hunt, regardless of what society thinks or expects of us.

Once you have a potential that you want to pursue, the method becomes the question. Your journey, just as the training of a thoroughbred, needs to build a foundation of good health, learning and physical ability. But most importantly, it must also nourish the spirit. The most talented thoroughbred will never excel if physical training drills dive the spirit from him. The thoroughbred wins because it is in his spirit, his heart, to compete. Care is taken to protect that heart through play and catering to his personality. So too, must you protect your spark. If your talent is in management, then build your knowledge of management skills, but also take time to explore the fringes, even the ridiculous. Perhaps you'll find a few golden nuggets along with broadening your perspective.

Take time to figure out where you really are right now. Review your past objectively and put it into perspective. Most importantly, give yourself credit for all that you have learned and accomplished. Write them down and give yourself gold stars for having lived your life so far. Take this opportunity to flush all those bad events in the past that have no bearing on where you can go in the future. While it may have been embarrassing that your dress was tucked
