I love the Sunday crossword and the real estate coverage and the magazine. But when it comes to the recent political coverage, the level of integrity has been diminished in a big way. It seems that a newspaper can come out and say anything and, because it's a candidate, we listen. Then we expect candidates to come out and respond. Where's the fact finding?
More importantly, if the Times' sources were just disgruntled or fired or left the campaign, they don't have a right to be anonymous. Their views do not put their lives in danger. This is not investigating a real crime. And shame on the Times for allowing such mediocrity among its ranks. If this were a story about Bill Gates or Steve Jobs, it wouldn't even have been published. (Britney Spears is another story entirely.) Speaking of which, it seems tmz.com has more sourcing credibility than the the New York Times does these days.
The Times is rehashing a story we already knew . The savings and loan crash. Some guys went to jail and John McCain got a slap on the wrist don't be so naive next time. While his company was unsavory, his intentions were honorable.
The only meat to this is Vicki Iseman. Iseman denies any impropriety as well as McCain. And who cares? I don't. In no way, shape or form, does it affect his ability to be a good Commander in Chief. John McCain is an honorable man. If he was my President, even though I don't agree with all of his views, I would respect him. Certainly more than our current Commander and Chief.
The New York Times should be ashamed. As the paper of record for America, it needs to be held to a higher standard. Go back a few years to Jayson Blair. Now this, and who knows what came in between. What's next?
Or maybe we're all stupid and the New York Times is really helping McCain. That sounds good . There's a backroom deal in which this liberal paper endorses McCain and then slams him. This makes the Conservative Republicans take a second look and think, "Hmm. Maybe McCain's not so bad after all." I'm not even a Republican and it got my dander up.
And that's what I think.
