Here is something that one would have to choose between and neither was is something I think anyone would like to choose. I do feel that it is hard to deal with either of the two, but usually when one deals with a gossip it is just that, when one encounters a tattle tale, it usually includes the gossip are as well.
From horrible retail experience I have worked with many people who have either quality, usually it was both. But there is a ty between a few people who were extremely talented in both areas, but this one girl was ruthless.
I had the wonderful fate of working in a jewelry store. Now we all know how cut throat that is to begin with. All the girls seemed nice, and it was all females except for our regional manager who never ever came around.
We all had different shifts so we worked with each other one on one, or maybe three girls at a time. But it wasnt much more than that during the week. Sometimes there were four or five during the weekend. But it was pretty quiet.
I thought we all go along, and then all of a sudden this girl just starts making stuff up. She started making up things about the other girls there, saying that they confided in her and that she swore not to tell, and so dont tell anyone. Then she started doing things that were against policy. She was always the one to "discover" that something was wrong and then she would tattle that people werent doing their jobs.
I got sick of her and left, but she followed me. I was not very excited about this. But she was pretending to be my friend. I tried to warn the manager of how this girl was. This girl was so convincing she would have been able to get a tiger to get rid of it's stripes. So she starts in here, telling lies about everyone making up stories.
Then the stealing started. She then "discovered" the stealing, and claimed she saw another co worker do it. Well the whole time we were there she was telling the manager that we were short here or there and it was always the same nights she worked with this other person. So they got fired because we didnt have a proper security camera.
It didnt end there. She kept on the tattling but it was her doing all the stealing, and leaving for hours on end and all the bad stuff. But since she was the first to say anything she was able to make the managers believe that she was being a good worker. One by one everyone started getting fired. I left on my own accord.
I later found out that Karma really does catch up to people and this girl ended up stealing so much jewelry and money from the drawer that the corporation head quarters actually sent down a investigator and they arrested her. Not that I am happy it ended like this, but at least she wont be able to make anyone' elses life hell in retail again.
