There was a reason you chose this business. Maybe it interested you; maybe you thought it was an industry that played to your strengths; maybe it offered a competitive salary and benefits. While it's not always advisable to choose a vocation based on compensation alone, many people do and end up regretting it. It's an old saying, but true, that money doesn't buy happiness. If you do what you love and believe in what you're doing, monetary compensation is just the icing on the cake.
With the right mental attitude, nothing can stop you from achieving your goals. Know what you want, and don't be afraid to ask for it. Success depends on no one but you. When you stumble, and on occasion you will, learn all you can from that experience to avoid making the same mistake in the future. Don't spend too much time looking backwards, though. Everyone makes mistakes. Put it in perspective and move forward.
Be ready for opportunities when they come. Every day that you show up and put forth your best effort puts you in the best position to seize opportunities when they come your way. Always seek to improve yourself. It keeps you and life in general, interesting.
Don't try to please everyone; it's the express path to failure. It takes courage to be true to yourself, but people of vision have rarely followed the herd. You may be criticised at times, and criticism is a valuable tool if it leads you to make better decisions, but don't allow nonconstructive criticism to derail you. If you believe in yourself, others will believe in you, and success will follow. Strive not only to be successful, but also to be a person of good character. Your decisions then will naturally benefit not only you, but your co-workers and your business as well. What better way to enhance your self-image?
