Walter Owen Bentley the founder of "Bentley Motors",was founded in
England January 18,1919. The man W.O.Bentley as he was called was
best known for his innovative rotary aero-engines of World War I.
The majority of his motors then contributed to the success of the
British Bi plane,the "Sopwith Camel". The luxury car started after
the war and helped W.O.Bentley achieve much success.
The best known cars were the Bentley winged "B",with the 4 1/2 liter
engine.It was a supercharged by a blower at the bottom of the grill.
The blower served the car as a super charger to it's engine and gave
the Bentley motor superb horse power and performance.
These cars have become collectors items over the years. Ralph Lauren
owns a "Bentley Blower".The Bentley cars were real popular in the
James Bond movies and were one of the most sought after cars of
collectors.
The Great Depression ruined Bentleys high priced cars dreams and
was bought out by Rolls Royce in 1931. Rolls Royce capitalized on
the new found purchase and produced the Bentley Continental which
proved to be a power house in the luxury car industry.
The various shapes and forms of the Bentley Continental were
produced through 1955 to 1965 and stopped the production in 2003.
Rolls Royce and Bentley Motors was purchased from "Vickers",the
owners since 1980.In a bidding war with BMW,the Volks Waggen owner
claimed the ownership after paying 430 million dollars for the
rights.
BMW agreed to supply the BMW engines for the Bentley until 2002.
The Volks Waggen company now supplies it's on version of V-8 in
the Bentley cars.
The beautiful lines of these cars and tough engines have kept the
dream alive. The price tags are high and if you wish to own a
Bentley you will be in a long line of competitors bidding for it's
favors.
The history and nostalgia of the Bentley make it a timeless wonder.
Surviving the events of two World wars,the Depression and the
numerous buy outs of this most prestigious car,are what make it so
valuable to own.
The Queen of England,"Queen Elizabeth the II",was given a State
Limousine by Bentley Motors. She still uses it on occasion to travel
to different parts of London. A car built for luxury and royalty. A
car that has stood the test of time,and is still eye catching today.
