My Content Choice To Home School

In today's society, parents have come across many concerns when it comes to their children. One being, is it safe for our children to go to the area schools in which they live. That was a choice I had to make for my grandson, whom I raise.

I have seen and heard some of the struggles that the neighborhood parents were having with their children from the schools. The problems stemmed on various levels. One problem was, children not getting the full affect of education because the teacher was too busy with the other children. Another was, the child being picked on by other kids.

I carefully thought it over and remembered a lot of issues I had to deal with when my children had gone to school when they were younger. The problems back at that time were just about the same as it was today with the public schools. I had to ask myself, "Do I want this for my grandson?"

My mind drifted back to the one day my youngest son was in school. I went to pick him up at the end of the day and there were policemen all over the school grounds. They had the doors barred from anyone going in, or out. It seemed there was a student in the school who was mad at another student and looking for him with a gun. In the middle of his search for the other student the police had captured him. Thank goodness he was caught before he took any actions, and innocent students would've been hurt or worse.

I then thought about my grandson's health conditions. That's when I had decided to go back to school to get my GED. I knew I would feel much more content teaching my grandson at home. His health conditions were an issue I would have worried myself sick over every day that he was in school.

One of my concerns would be when he was playing with the other children he would accidentally have his head hit by something or someone. He was born with a head condition that required careful monitoring. He also had a condition with his chest. I didn't want to take a chance of something bad happening to him while he was in school.

So, while I was taking my GED course I did some research on home schooling. It was easier then I thought it was going to be. I called the local school that my grandson would've been going to and talked to the guidance counselor there. I had to go through some steps to get him enrolled and did a small test.

After I passed the small test, I was approved. The guidance counselor set
