Reflections: Who do you think is the most important person ever to live

by Anthony Boon Hua Goh

The most important person who has ever lived is undoubtedly the Lord Jesus Christ. Let me detail the reasons why -

He was born a man. Scripture says that he was conceived by the Virgin Mary by the power of the Holy Spirit, that is, God was incarnated in human form, in blood and flesh.

He came for the purpose of saving man from his sin. Since the time of Adam man lives in continued sin. Don't believe it? The turmoil which the world sees, existed from time immemorial, from the day when man began to kill and to rob his fellows, to speak ill of others, to gain an advantage over others by fair means or foul. Study social history! You know that this is true.

To save man from sin he underwent great pain and sorrow. The Book of Isaiah, Chapter 53, says - "...(he was)stricken by God...afflicted...crushed for our (man's) iniquities,...the Lord made his life a guilt offering...", and finally, "after the suffering of his soul, he will see the light of life and be satisfied...my righteous servant will justify many..."

Isaiah, Chapter 6, goes on to say that Jesus..."was anointed to preach good news to the poor...to bind up the broken-hearted...to proclaim freedom for captives...to release (souls) from darkness...to comfort all who mourn...to provide the oil of gladness and a garment of praise...(to human beings).

That is exactly what he did in his three-year ministry, preaching to the poor, healing the sick, opening blind eyes, opening the ears and the mouths of the deaf and dumb, casting out demons, calling the people to repentance and righteous living.

And finally, that man might be restored to a right relationship with his Creator God.

Romans, Chapter 3, says - "there is no one righteous, not even one...there is no one who understands, no one who seeks God...and the way of peace they do not know...for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God."

No man who is impure or unrighteous will be able to see God. Why? God is perfect holiness. Man is imperfect unholiness. Holiness cannot coexist with unholiness.

All men are born with the taint of unrighteousness (sin) in our souls and therefore cannot see God. But Jesus Christ opened the way for men to come into the presence of God because only a perfect sacrifice - the Holy Lamb of God - could do just that.

No man is the greatest or the most important. All men are valuable. Only Jesus Christ is the most important because he (He) gave men hope of reconciliation with God through his (His) righteous death.
