Predictions: 2008 College Basketball season

by C-Mo

Indiana will Represent in 2008 NCAA Tourney

This year has been the wackiest NCAA Men's Basketball season in years. Logic dictates that this is the year that Cinderella wakes up and meets Prince Charming. Who is Sleeping Beauty this year? In March, anything can happen. As Dicky V. would say, "It's March Madness Baby!"

The Mighty Bulldogs from Indianapolis, IN might turn some heads. The Dawgs of Butler University have a chance to shock the world. This program has been on the cusp of major success for years and it finally seems like the corner is turned. Finally, the Dawg Pound is proud of their basketball program, because it is a legitimate threat to make the NCAA Final Four this year.

BU is 25-2 overall and with only 2 losses in the Horizon League with two league games to play. Unless there is a major meltdown, they are penciled in as the Horizon League Champs. The Bulldogs are now No. 8 in the nation in both the Associated Press and ESPN/USA Today polls.

Butler is not the only program from the State of Indiana that has potential to make some serious noise at the big dance. Indiana University and Notre Dame are lacing up their dancing shoes also. Although Indiana's leadership is faulted, their talented kids are lead by the freshman phenom, E-Gord, who is the best Hoosier point guard since Isiah Thomas. Notre Dame is one of the most fundamentally sound college squads that boasts big players that can shoot the lights out.

Predictions for Top 3 Indiana NCAA Teams:

3) Notre Dame - Lose in the Sweet 16 game. Will get beat by an athletic, run and gun team

2) Indiana - Lose in Elite 8 game. Will get out coached by a team that should never beat IU

1) Butler - Win NCAA Championship. Shock a top #2 bracket team

When you are filling out your March Madness brackets, don't slip on the schools from Indiana. Any student of the game can see that any of these three Sleeping Beauties can grab the trophy for the Hoosier State. Even though IU has the most athletic players of the three, Butler has the better shooters and mental toughness edge. ND can bang with any program. Any of these programs would be welcomed in my pool picks this year. Basketball is forever strong in Indiana.
