the will to carry on. That moment when we find more strength to preserver than we ever had to begin with.
Within the runners community there is a phenomenon called "the second wind." This phenomenon in distance running happens when an athlete who is too tired to run another step suddenly finds the where with all to press forward at top performance. There are several different theories as to why this occurs, some of them scientific and some of them physiological. One scientific theory involves the proper distribution of oxygen to lactic acid, not unlike the proper distribution of skills or talents to one's dream. Whatever the case may be the phenomenon remains a reality. It is this second wind that carries extraordinary people with ordinary dreams to a level much higher than they had ever imagined they could attain. It is the life runner who is willing to go the distance and feel the second wind who will indeed attain the prize that achieving one's dreams will afford. Truly great runners will often remark that they live for the feeling that the second wind gives them. True dream chasers will not only learn to love the second wind, but find a point of creativity within it.
There is a wise proverb that says, "without a dream the people perish." Our dreams are as the air that we breathe and the water that we drink. Our dreams are physiological needs. We so need that feeling that we get when our dream begins to seem attainable that without it we could indeed perish. Perhaps it does not even matter so much that our dreams ever become realities but that we have those dreams and strive forward to them that is so very important.
To achieve the dream is truly a prize, yet to discover your dream is a prize greater still. But press forward still for there is indeed that one moment, when the oxygen is evenly distributed to quiet the lactic acid of negative thought, and suddenly the second wind that carries us begins to propel us upward to our innate potential.
