questioned his own judgment at some point, for on his opening day of business the company only had a handful of deliveries of which most where delivered to the wrong destination or late. If at first you do not succeed, than try and try again,' for you just may have a billion dollar dream. Indeed that is what Fred Smith did and that company was Federal Express. Now known simply as FedEx, the company services homes and businesses worldwide and yields an annual revenue of $36 billion United Stated Dollars.
What if Fred Smith had simply taken his professors advice and tucked that term paper away in a box somewhere? Perhaps he would have dug his old paper out one day, when considering what to shred, and found that some other smart young fellow had initiated his dream. What if, when Fred failed to deliver those first few packages during his first days and weeks of business, what if he had failed to catch that second wind? Where would Fred be now? No doubt, he would still be successful. When Fred founded Federal Express, however, he did not just form a company, he initiated a new concept. As is the case with many who follow their dreams, there could possibly be a huge hole in the market place today if not for the dream that Fred Smith pushed forward to.
Catch Your Second Wind
"Mommy, I can smell the rain." My four-year-old daughter remarked as my husband fumbled for the key to unlock the front door. As the warm Arizona wind pushed a monsoon across the dry barren desert I too could smell the much needed rain. In our particular religious faith the rain is a sign of Gods many blessings become tangible. We often refer to going after one's dreams as "preparing for rain." When life seems hopeless and dreams unattainable I often find myself crying out to God to open the windows of heaven to pour over me a flood of blessing that I cannot contain. In the hour when those dreams seem lost and all hope is vanished, it is no surprise that the words that my daughter spoke that day often return to give me a breath of fresh air. When I here the words softly in my mind, "Mommy, I can smell the rain." Suddenly I can smell it too.
In my imagination I can smell the rain and the fresh air that it brings with it. The breath of fresh air, not much unlike the phenomenon of the runners second wind. That strange moment, after which one has completely given up, when all seems lost and there is no hope in sight. That moment when we find, after much despair and great agony, we suddenly have
