Movie reviews: Hot Fuzz

"Hot Fuzz" is the latest great British movie sensation to hit America. Director Edgar Wright reunites the comedic duo of Simon Pegg and Nick Frost from "Shaun of the Dead" for this action packed, shoot-em up thriller that everyone is bound to enjoy. Fans of their first venture will be more than pleased with this combination of off the wall humor and awe-inspiring action scenes.

Writers Wright and Pegg have a uniquely funny perspective when writing films. In this instance, they've literally combined the comedy of "Monty Python" with the action of Michael Bay's "Bad Boys" to create a hilarious action packed murder mystery with scenes that will keep audiences captivated to the end. Just when you think they've gone to far, Wright and Pegg surprise you with their own twist that pushes the action movie genre to a new level. Combined with the affable loser quality that Nick Frost brings to his character, this trio has once again made going to the movies fun.

The supporting cast, with the likes of Timothy Dalton (Simon Skinner), Jim Broadbent (Frank, the police chief), and Bill Nighy (Chief Inspector) is absolutely top notch as well. An actor, or in this case actors, are only as good as their supporting cast and this one in particular is a well seasoned group of veterans who know how to be funny. Timothy Dalton especially sticks out as local supermarket owner Simon Skinner, a rather fiendish looking individual with an affinity for using strong language. Also, Jim Broadbent and Bill Nighy bring their typically funny selves to the table, adding another dimension of comedic talent.

In this film, Simon Pegg plays super cop Nicholas Angel, a ready for action constable who is overly proficient at catching bad guys on the crime ridden streets of London. After winning numerous accolades for his achievements, Nicholas Angel's inordinately jealous superiors decide to send him away to the sleepy town of Sanford in an effort to gain some notoriety for themselves. Sanford, having the country's lowest crime rate, quickly proves to be a relatively boring community as Sergeant Angel spends his time arresting underage drinkers, chasing a shoplifter, and confiscating a local farmer's hidden arsenal. Also, to make matters worse, he is partnered up with Danny Butterman (Nick Frost), a pudgy laid-back guy who happens to be the chief of police's son.

As Sergeant Angel's new colleagues scoff at his attempts to keep law and order in the community, the local Neighborhood Watch Association welcomes
