I think most people in this world are searching for their own happiness. They are looking at other people and think that those people look happy, thus they should try to get what those people have or do what they do, so that they can be happy too.
Yet, on the surface, these people might look happy, they might portray that they are having a good time, but are searching for their own happiness deep down.
I will define happiness as a state of being. Happiness does not come and go. If a person is truly happy, they are constantly happy within. It does not matter whether that person is going through the toughest time of their life, they will still be happy.
So how is this possible? How can one lose a loved one and still be happy? People will think that this is impossible. But I can tell you now, if you live a life that is filled with God's love, no matter what hits you, you will feel the joy in your heart, you will know that God has a purpose in all things and that knowledge together with the Holy Ghost will give you the peace in your heart that all will be well.
So, how does one achieve this kind of happiness?
One can achieve this, by getting to know God, by learning to love Him and by obeying the His commandments. When you do that, He will show you what His 'will' is for you in this life. You will understand that He has a purpose for you in this life. You will be free. Meaning, that if you keep his commandments, you will be free of any unwanted punishments that will come to you from making bad choices in your life. If you know what the Lord wants from you, you will make better choices and the consequences of those choices will be good.
Let's take this as an example. One boy decides to break the Lord's commandment and steal someones purse. For a short moment that boy might be happy to have found money in the purse and would feel good about getting away with the crime. Yet, he will always feel the fear of getting caught. He will always be hiding from police. He can not live a happy life, because he is not free.
As apposed to a boy who makes the right choice, to keep the Lord's commandments. He is free. He does not need to run or hide from anyone. He does not have to live in fear of getting into trouble. And he certainly does not have to fear God, and His judgment day.
It is easy for people to think that they do not need God in their lives. They think that having parties, traveling the world, having a lot of money and having a fun time brings them happiness. Yet, these moments of happiness are only temporarily.
True happiness comes from within. It comes from knowing who you are, what your purpose in life is and knowing that you are living a good clean life, filled with the love of God. That love you can share with other people and it will bring you even more happiness.
