This spring is all about variety, experimentation, and finding your own personal style. There are so many options and extremes that every woman can find her fit in the trends that are popping up on runways, catalogs and on the glossy pages of magazines like Marie Claire and Cosmopolitan.
Here are just a few of the inspiring fashions that have been discovered - and re-discovered:
GOING ON SAFARI
Animal prints are back and hotter than ever. The typical khaki tone is kicked up a notch with metallic accents, leather bustiers and sexy fringe. Earthy colored tops are exotic and sensual when accented by white pants, while the jewelry appearing on the scene is full of chunky beads and wooden bangles.
THE PIN-UP GIRL RETURNS!
Polka-dots and high-waisted pants have recently make a fierce comeback in the world of fashion. Bright red lipstick and voluminous, curly hair go well with the patriotic red, white and navy blue separates popping up in fashion mags. A ruffle-front blouse in polka-dots, gingham or stripes can be tucked into a pair of high-waisted shorts or paired with some snug pedal pushers. Platform heels and heavy jewelry complete this glamorous look. Even swimwear has taken on a pin-up girl appeal, with sultry, high-waisted numbers and one-piece suits taking over the itty bitty bikinis of recent years.
THE NEW BOHEMIAN
Eyelet blouses and skirts, crocheted tops and slouchy boots are back, and are superbly pretty in their simplicity. The maxi dress has returned for its second season, this time in bold, paisley prints and with flouncy, feminine hemlines. Basketweave sandals with a platform heel compliment these soft styles, as do large, slouchy boho bags. Delicate, pretty tops can be paired with frayed jeans, rugged cargos, or even camouflage.
FEMININE FLAIR & BEDROOM WEAR
The new spring styles are lacy, girly, and oh-so-fun! Sheer blouses and camis in pastel colors like pink and yellow have returned. Sexy bedroom wear is also appearing on the fashion scene - snug corsets, lacy bustiers, and slip dresses lend a sexy look to office wear and can be worn with a cardigan and boots for extra warmth in those early spring days. Satin ballet flats are still a popular footwear choice, especially in bold, feminine colors.
NEUTRAL SHOES, BOLD BAGS AND EXCEPTIONAL ACCESSORIES
Khaki-colored, white and tan shoes are the perfect compliment for all those flashy separates. On the other end of the safe shoe spectrum comes the wild, patterned, sparkly shoes that need to be paired with pastel or neutral clothing. These include floral-patterned pumps, satin wedges in orange with frilly embellishment, and peep-toe pumps in everything from mint green to red snakeskin. The wedge has been reinvented with pretty pictures of flowers and birds painted on the thick heel. Jewel-toned bags are available in all sizes and make a bold statement in purple, emerald and deep blue. Metallic purses are still on the scene, as are the environmentally- friendly totes that remind you to recycle and reuse. Big beads, long chains and heavy pendants are becoming the norm for jewelry. The bold colors and pretty pastels are echoed in these accessories so every outfit can be perfectly complimented.
Coco Chanel once said, "Fashion is not something that exists in dresses only. Fashion is in the sky, in the street, fashion has to do with ideas, the way we live, what is happening." And nothing seems to be more fitting for the earthy variety and life-inspired colors that are going to be hot for the coming spring. Match the flowers, contrast with the sunshine, seek out the exotic animals - and most of all, have fun with the great new fashion trends, and start a few of your own.
