My favorite video games and an explanation of why they are my favorites

I was born in 1983, not long after the Atari was released and right on the heels of Nintendo's release. Boy did I luck out! I have been playing video games for about 20 years and there are a few games that sit atop my list of all-time greats. The following is a list of my 10 favorite games, and why I love them so much.

10. Mortal Kombat (SNES)- The original Mortal Kombat reinvented the genre of fighting games. At the time, it's release was unrivaled. I remember like it was yesterday playing my neighbors copy on "Mortal Monday", the official release day for the hyped up game. But the hype didn't hold a candle to the response of gaming fans, this game was phenomenal! With cutting edge graphics (at the time) and a load of creativity, Mortal Kombat set the bar high for fighting games of any generation.

9. NBA Jam (SNES)- I can't tell you how many hours I spent playing the original NBA Jam on my Super Nintendo. This arcade smash-hit was just as fun on my console as it was at the local Putt-Putt! I would play hours on end, whether it was against a friend or the pesky computer. This game was 2 on 2 basketball on steroids. You could hit tons of threes and could jump 20 feet in the air, what's not to love!? All the cool cheat codes and endless fun make this my favorite basketball game ever.

8. Super Mario Bros. 3 (SNES)- Yes, another Super Nintendo title. This game took the world's biggest video game icon, Mario, and gave him unlimited capabilities. Battling and warping from world to world had never been this fun. Mario could morph into a raccoon, a frog, a bear, and other cool things. Mario could fly like the wind and swim like a fish, all while stomping the heads of his foes. This challenging game was extremely fun and an unforgettable video game of my childhood.

7. Super Mario 64 (N64)- This game was simply amazing! In this game, Mario was now thrown into an interactive world of 3-D fun. You can basically go anywhere and do anything in this game. This game is one huge seemingly endless world of exploration. I spent hours and hours just exploring the stages, then later went back to complete the game. However, the enemies, stages, and obstacles on this game were very challenging. This game had me glued to my seat for at least a year.

6. Ms. Pacman (Atari)- Well, the complexity of this game is almost at a bare minimum. But the fun was endless! Escaping ghosts and eating dots in a maze is addicting, plain and simple. This game seems never-ending, and I never got halfway through
