Regardless of mankind's detachment from nature and immersion into the electronic age, our bodies recognize the need for balance. It recognizes our need to recharge and get away' from our fast-paced lives. When we refuse to slow down and acknowledge our need to balance and recharge, our body tends to find other ways to do it.

If our chakras are out of balance, it can lead to a plethora of problems which manifest in various ways. However, once our body recognizes that it is an energy imbalance (which, it is believed, most sickness is); it can direct our unconscious mind to take action in different ways. One of those ways is to bring stones and gems into our lives in the form of jewelry.

The root chakra is located at the base of the spine and is our energy foundation. It is directly linked to our physical self and, ideally, the root chakra will bring us security, health, and prosperity. Its color is red and therefore, stones of this color help to balance it. The sacral chakra is next and located in the lower back, near the sexual organs. It directly effects emotions and sexuality. This is the chakra that connects us to other people and brings about desire, sexual fulfillment, and the acceptance of change. If a person is feeling detached or unsexy, they may seek out orange stones such as topaz to balance this chakra.

The solar plexus chakra is third. It is seated at the solar plexus and, if balanced, brings spontaneity and energy. It is the center of personal will power. When this is unbalanced, a person may fell listless and unable to make a concrete decision. They may seek out yellow stones such as citrine and amber to bring about balance.

The heart chakra is next. It is associated with the color green and located at the heart. It is the chakra of love. When it is in balance, we tend to love deeply and feel extremely compassionate toward our fellow man. For it to be blocked or unbalanced, we can feel off centered and dispassionate. Green stones, such as emerald and jade bring balance here.

Fifth of the seven chakras is the throat chakra. It is the chakra of communication and associated with the color blue. This is where it is believe that all communication and creativity
